National Walking Month
We joined Sian Jones, TfW Community Rail Ambassador for North Wales with 2 groups – Unique and Vale of Clwyd Mind on their Confident to travel scheme. We travelled the Conwy Valley Line with Unique from Rhyl to Blaenau Ffestiniog before stopping at Betws y Coed for some wellbeing time, taking in some beautiful walks along the river, and with Vale of Clwyd Mind, we travelled from Rhyl to Llanfairfechan station and walked the nature reserve taking in views of Llandudno, Puffin Island and Anglesey, with a coffee stop at the end.
Community Rail Week
We showcased and promoted the Community Rail Partnership during Community Rail Week. We attended Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New street, chatting with travellers about the area we cover and the recently extended line to Shotton, handing out timetables and chatting about attractions featured on our map.
Feel Good Field Trips
We have supported David Savage, Community Rail Officer with Community Rail Lancashire with his Avanti West Coast ‘Feel Good Field Trips’ accompanying 2 groups of Year 5 and 6 pupils from a local primary school, Ysgol Tudno. We travelled to Liverpool where the children had an excellent experience of a guided tour at the Liver Buildings, then onto the Mersey Ferry for a trip on the River Mersey, after a packed lunch at the Fab 4 Café on the Waterfront.
New Map
We launched our new Community Rail Partnership map, which now shows the extension of the Conwy Valley and North West Wales Coast from Llandudno Junction to Holyhead and the Conwy Valley. We have displayed this at Llandudno railway station and it’s going down a storm. Launching on social media, it reached almost 70000 people over a bank holiday weekend.
Rupee and Sushi Travel by Train
During Community Rail Week we were delighted to launch a new railway accessibility book with Severnside Community Rail Partnership.
The book follows Rupee and Sushi on their first train journey and highlights some of the accessibility features on the railway aimed at improving people’s confidence when travelling.
The project was funded by Transport for Wales, Avanti West Coast, Great Western Railway and Transreport. You can read more about our launch here.
