Bangor beach front looking blooming marvellous

Pupils from Ysgol Hirael have been using their green fingers to help Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership give the planters on the Beach Road area of Bangor a spring makeover with new plants and herbs thanks to funding from Transport for Wales’ Greener Communities Community Grant Fund.

Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership were awarded £500 from the ‘Greener Communities’ Fund which was launched in September 2022 as part of the Conwy Valley and North West Wales Community Rail Partnership Community Grant Fund. The Fund was designed to support the resilience and sustainability of community organisations along the routes from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog and Llandudno Junction to Holyhead. Additional funding from Transport for Wales was made available for community groups whose emphasis was on ‘Green Projects’.

Partneriaeth Maesgeirchen Partnership applied to the ‘Greener Communities’ Fund to purchase bulbs, plugs and herbs to be placed in raised bed planters along the Beach road area of Bangor. The Partnership enlisted the help of pupils from Ysgol Hirael and volunteers from the community to bed out beautiful flowering plants such as daffodils, cyclamen and primrose and aromatic herbs like rosemary and oregano. Volunteer Sadie used her creative flare to paint artwork on the dedicated herb bed to show what’s planted. Thanks to all the hard working volunteers there’s been an instant improvement to the feel and look of this popular area of Bangor and as the bulbs and plants grow they’ll look even more attractive to visitors and residents.
