The History of the Railway through Art project celebrates 200 years of rail history<\/strong> through creativity and inclusion. Working with learners from Ysgol Y Gogarth<\/strong>, a local Additional Learning Needs (ALN) school in Llandudno, the Conwy Valley and North Wales Coast Community Rail Partnership (CRP)<\/strong> will host weekly art sessions<\/strong> led by an experienced artist and the school\u2019s art teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learners will design and create a vibrant mosaic mural<\/strong> inspired by the history of Llandudno railway station and the railway<\/strong>. The final artwork will be installed at Llandudno railway station<\/strong>, becoming a lasting symbol of creativity, inclusion, and local heritage for both the community and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will culminate in a public launch event<\/strong>, celebrating the young artists\u2019 achievements and marking Railway 200<\/strong>, the national bicentenary of the railways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aims and Objectives<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

1. To celebrate the heritage of Llandudno railway station and the railway through community-led art.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Research and interpret 200 years of railway history and Llandudno railway station\u2019s role in local life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Interpret this heritage into a vibrant, accessible mosaic artwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Install the artwork at Llandudno railway station to engage passengers and local residents with the town\u2019s rail story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    2. To promote inclusion and creativity among learners with additional needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Provide 12 weekly art sessions tailored to learners\u2019 abilities, facilitated by an artist, teacher, and personal assistants.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Encourage self-expression and sensory engagement through the use of colour, texture, and materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Build learners\u2019 confidence and social interaction through teamwork and creative collaboration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      3. To strengthen community wellbeing and connection to place.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Enhance Llandudno Station with a lasting, community-created artwork that promotes pride in the community of Llandudno.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Bring together educational, cultural, and transport partners in a shared celebration of art and history.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Promote awareness of Railway 200 and the value of community engagement in the rail network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        1. Ysgol y Gogarth <\/strong>– their students will be participating and creating the artworks. Their teaching assistants and art teacher will facilitate weekly sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        2. Mazin Mosaics<\/strong> – owner Mel Roberts will lead the design and creative direction of the mosaic, working closely with learners and school staff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        3. Transport for Wales<\/strong> – supports and funds the project through their Community Engagement Fund and as part of the Railway 200 celebrations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
