{"id":2419,"date":"2023-05-19T22:00:29","date_gmt":"2023-05-19T21:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conwyvalleyrailway.co.uk\/?p=2419"},"modified":"2024-02-14T20:10:16","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T20:10:16","slug":"community-rail-weel-art-at-stations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.conwyvalleynorthwalescoast.com\/cy\/2023\/05\/19\/community-rail-weel-art-at-stations\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Rail Week: Looking back at our Art at Stations Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community Rail Week, sponsored by Rail Delivery Group, is an annual event showcasing the innovative projects and inspiring initiatives from across the community rail movement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a Community Rail Partnership, we are celebrating by looking back at some of the projects we have delivered with the aim of connecting communities by rail.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Art <em>at<\/em> Stations <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The Art at Stations project was designed to connect young people to their railway, educating them on the dangers of trespassing on the railway and encouraging them to share rail safety messages through graffiti art. We enlisted the help of North Wales graffiti artist, Andy Birch to support the students to design their artwork.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project also helped breakdown existing barriers and build relationships between the young people and British Transport Police (BTP), who were in attendance during the creative sessions to explain the importance of safety at stations.<\/p>\n<p>[embedyt] https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cC2U9EXbcyg[\/embedyt]<\/p>\n<p>[embedyt] https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jHpjb_6g05E[\/embedyt]<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Art at Holyhead Railway Station by Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Year 10 pupils designed and created five pieces of art, three of which were graffiti murals focusing on key messages around rail safety and safety in water as well as promoting mental health and tourism in Holyhead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twenty pupils were involved in this inspiring project, and each gained a qualification for their work as part of their Prince\u2019s Trust Community Project module. The project was shortlisted for a Community Rail Award 2022 in the Involving Children and Young People category.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1881 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conwyvalleynorthwalescoast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/holyhead-artwork-nov-22.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"706\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Art at North Llanrwst Railway Station by Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Year 10 and 11 pupils from Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy designed a piece of art based on rail safety. The artwork replaced an old and damaged piece in the shelter at North Llanrwst railway station. The frame to secure the artwork was kindly donated by College Llandrillo.
